Best Travel Pants for Adventure, Leisure and Everything in Between

Back in the early days of commercial flights, travelers would get dressed up in Sunday best when they traveled on a plane. Today, people are going for comfort when they plan to spend a few hours flying cross-country. So it’s safe to say that finding the best travel pants that offer style and comfort is important. Having a pair of pants that also works for hiking in a national park, kayaking in the ocean or exploring ice castles is important.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to try out some KÜHL pants in a variety of settings. There are three pairs I specifically want to talk about, but I’ll also share with you the thoughts from my wife and one son who have tried out some KÜHL pants as well.

Overall Feedback on KÜHL Pants

The KÜHL pants I’ve worn, and the ones my son and wife have tried out, are fantastic. Each pair – though different in scope – were comfortable and stylish. They’re the kind of pants I look forward to wearing, even when it’s just a Saturday hanging around the house.

I received my KÜHL pants on Christmas, which means it’s been winter for the past few months. Two of the styles are ones I would plan to wear specifically when hiking in the mountains or exploring a national park. But in the winter, I’d need to rely on the one pair of KÜHL pants that work well for that added thickness – Rydr.

Luckily, I’ve been able to venture to a few places that were conducive to hiking, walking and even kayaking. And the KÜHL pants were perfect. I look forward to exploring some of the national parks in Utah this year and plan to sport my KÜHL pants for the comfy style I’m looking for.

The Perfect Pants for Travel and Day-to-Day Wear

Let me first share my experience with the Resistor Chino KÜHL pants in Pirate Blue. These are the ones I was most excited about, because they were a pair of pants I could put on just because. If I was going to be working from home that day, I could wear those KÜHL pants. If I was going to take our dog for a walk through the neighborhood, the Resistor Chino KÜHL pants were perfect.

The first travel test for these pants was a business trip to San Diego in February. I wore the pants for the two-hour plane ride and liked them much better than the pair of jeans I would’ve typically worn. Here’s why:

  • The pants had some flex to them, so I didn’t feel constrained like I do in a pair of jeans.
  • They have a flat front and stylish look, so I didn’t feel like I was “dressed down” to fly.
  • The pockets fit what I needed – keys, wallet and phone – and allowed me to easily empty them to make it through airport security.
  • The fabric is soft and comfortable, so no complaints there.

Because of the versatility of these pants – and the comfort – I would definitely consider purchasing pairs in the future.

Warm and Sturdy Pants for the Winter Adventures

Utah’s been getting A LOT of snow this year, which means I’ve had ample opportunities to “work” in the snow. In January, we had 16″ of snow fall overnight and I had to spend multiple hours shoveling the snow from our driveway and sidewalks. My KÜHL pants – Rydr in the forged iron color – worked perfectly.

The pants gave me the durability I needed to be working in the snow, but the comfort to not have to change out of them when I went inside for a break. They’re like a comfy – not bulgie – pair of snowpants. I was able to stay warm with the thickness of the pants.

But my experience with the Rydr pants wasn’t limited to working in the snow. I’ve also been able to play in the snow. My wife and I took a trip up to the Ice Castles in Midway, Utah, and I sported my Rydr KÜHL pants for the warmth and durability. At one point, as I was crawling through an ice cave, I was glad I had the right pants on for the snow. Despite the knees getting a little wet, it wasn’t something that would’ve haunted me the rest of the night had I been wearing typical blue jeans. I stayed warm, but wasn’t afraid to get down in the snow or ride one of the ice slides. And again, I didn’t need the bulkieness of snowpants.

The heavy-duty nature of the Rydr KÜHL pants are perfect for winter and I’m glad I have a pair to use when I’m heading into the mountains. They’re warm and comfortable.

Convertible Pants for Warm, Cold, Wet and Dry

Sometimes it’s hard to know if you need to be wearing shorts or pants. Spring and fall are especially challenging because the weather can quickly change. Traveling from a warm climate (like New Orleans) to a colder climate (like Utah) can also pose a challenge between shorts and paints.

It was in this circumstance where I was glad I had Renegade Cargo Convertible KÜHL pants in a burnt olive color. While kayaking through the swamps of New Orleans, I was able to unzip the bottom part of the pants and wear shorts. It was perfect for the activity. I later headed to the airport for my flight home. When I landed in Utah, I paused to reattach the legs to the shorts so I could brave the much colder winter weather. It was awesome!

The pants also worked well during a kayak tour to the La Jolla caves. The weather wasn’t great that day – as far as temperatures were concerned, so these pants were perfect to give me the flexibility if I got a little too warm. The material was also great to keep me warm, despite the cold sea water splashing up into the kayak. The pockets were great, too, so I could carry the things with me that I may need while on the water.

These are the pants I look forward to wearing during my summer adventures to the mountains and national parks of Utah.

Women’s KÜHL Pants for Everyday Wear

My wife can’t say enough about how much she loves her pair of Women’s Free-flex Roll-up KÜHL pants. She loves how they fit and the comfort they provide her throughout the day. She isn’t able to wear them to work – they require business casual – but on weekends, she’s often seen sporting these pants.

As the weather warms up and we begin our adventures in the great outdoors, these pants will be her go-to choice for comfort and style.

After a long day of work, my wife enjoys curling up with a good book or working on a puzzle. While she may not yet be ready to get into pajamas – in case we need to go somewhere or have company stop by – the Bliss Joggr KÜHL pants are her go-to choice.

When my wife wants to spend some time on the treadmill, she puts on these pants as well. They provide the comfort and flexibility for a workout – in addition to the ability to relax around the house.

Versatile KÜHL Pants for the Active Teenager

My teenage son is always growing. It’s challenging to find him pants that he likes. In fact, he absolutely refuses to wear denim jeans. The material of the Revolvr KÜHL pants provide him the comfort he needs in a pair of pants and a style that works for him.

Up until now, he’s only been able to wear them to school and around the house. But with spring and summer just around the corner, and several vacations planned in the outdoors, he’s going to be able to explore in comfort.

Where to Buy Your Next Pair of Pants

There are multiple retailers who sell KÜHL pants. Places like Scheels, REI, C-A-L Ranch Stores and more. My wife and I, along with my son, visited one of the retailers to try on the pants to determine the size and the style we liked best in the pants. After that, we knew what we wanted to order and could easily do so from the KÜHL website.

Here’s a rundown on the KÜHL pants I’ve written about above so you can check them out in detail and see the prices and colors.

DISCLOSURE: I received these six complimentary pairs of pants from KÜHL for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
