5 Disneyland Boredom Busters for Kids of All Ages

It doesn’t matter how many cool things the Disney Imagineers place in the queues for people to explore while waiting for a ride, kids (and sometimes adults) get bored. Having been to Disneyland and Disney World a few times, we’ve had to wait in our share of long lines, even with Genie+.

Here are five Disneyland boredom busters to help your kids enjoy the experience and you keep your sanity.

Play Disneyland BINGO with these Printable Game Cards

Bring a new game to your Disneyland experience. Download these digital and printable Disneyland BINGO game cards and give them to each member of your group. During your visit, each person will have to mark off five in a row to get a BINGO. With 32 unique boards, you can also try for a BLACKOUT by marking off every square on your board.

My brother-in-law introduced us to the game and everyone in our group fought to be one of the first three people to get a BINGO. This included the adults, teenagers and younger kids, too. After all, there was a prize on the line for the first three people to get a BINGO.

Play the Heads Up! Game

I laughed the first time I saw someone holding a phone up to their forehead while everyone in their group tried to help them guess the word. However, the Heads Up! app has been a lifesaver. It’s come in super handy when we’ve been standing in lines of 60+ minute waits. We’ve been able to laugh at our foibles, and we’ve even had others standing in line next to us offer up clues to help us guess the right word.

Download the app:  iPhone   Android

The Heads Up! app has different categories you can guess from, like Superstars, Blockbuster Movies and Icons, Legends and Stars. The initial free download gives you a couple of decks to play with. Additional decks can be purchased to add more variety to the game.

If you’re inside Disneyland or Disney World, you may be able to download the Disney Parks deck for free. You’ll have to help the player guess characters, movies, places and more. It’s the perfect family-friendly, engaging app that will help the time pass while waiting in a long line.

Search for Hidden (and not so hidden) Mickeys

Everyone’s heard of the hidden Mickeys scattered throughout the park. There are some on rides, as well as some hidden in the queues. If you aren’t sure where to find them, you can cheat a little by using a mobile device to Google the hidden Mickeys wherever you are at in the park.

For example, while waiting in the Radiator Springs Racers line, we were able to find a couple of hidden Mickey’s. The search helped keep the kids entertained (i.e., distracted) while we stood in the line for about 45 minutes. If you don’t have a mobile device you can use while in the line, you can purchase one of the hidden Mickey books at a shop, or Google them before you leave your hotel.

Play “I Spy With My Little Eye”

While waiting in line, you’ll likely be standing in the same general area for a while. That will give you an opportunity to spy something with your little eye, and then see if the others in your group can guess what it is you spotted.

You could pick a cactus near the Radiator Springs Racers, or a symbol on the wall in the Indiana Jones Adventure ride. Be creative, and see what little things your young ones can spot while waiting in line.

Have a Photoshoot

There are a lot of things to play with while waiting in many of the lines throughout the park. To help pass the time, you can always have a photoshoot with your kids. The queue to Mickey’s backyard studio is filled with things kids can explore.

While this option may not work with teenagers – unless they are taking their own selfie and sharing it on their social media channels – it’s yet another way to pass the time and see how crazy people will get to have a photo that tops the others in the group.

The bonus: You end up with photos of your kids smiling while at Disneyland. 😉
