Visit the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta

If you’re a college football fan (or even just curious about the sport’s history), the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta is a must-visit destination. It’s more than a museum; it’s an interactive experience that brings the excitement of game day to life for fans of all ages.

There are only a few teams I follow in the college football realm – University of Utah (Utes) and Brigham Young University (BYU Cougars). I love cheering for the Utes, while I also hope BYU has a stellar year. When the two teams go head-to-head, I bleed red (Go Utes!).

While the College Football Hall of Fame was a little out of my knowledge base, I still enjoyed learning more about some of my home teams and the progression of the sport.

Kickoff: Your Fan Card Experience

When you arrive, you’ll receive a Fan Card that personalizes your visit. Simply tap your card at exhibits throughout the Hall, and the displays will highlight your favorite college team. Whether you cheer for Alabama, Notre Dame, BYU, or any of the 775+ teams represented, the Hall tailors the experience to you. It’s a clever way to make sure every visitor feels like part of the action.

Finding Your Team and Star Players

One of the highlights is the Helmet Wall, a massive display featuring helmets from every college football program. With a quick tap of your Fan Card, your team’s helmet lights up, and you can dive deeper into its history. From there, you’ll discover legendary players, memorable games, and the traditions that make each program unique.

Interactive Exhibits for Fans of All Ages

The Hall isn’t just about looking at artifacts. It’s about stepping into the game. Some of the most popular interactive exhibits include:

  • Broadcast Booth: Try your hand at calling a famous play and see if you’ve got the voice of a sportscaster.
  • Game Day Theater: A 4K film immerses you in the sights and sounds of college football’s greatest moments.
  • Skill Zone: Test your passing accuracy, agility, and reaction time in hands-on challenges.

Each stop along the way connects back to your Fan Card, so you can track your progress and relive the highlights later.

Beyond the fun and games, the Hall of Fame also tells the story of how college football began and evolved into the cultural phenomenon it is today. Exhibits highlight the sport’s early pioneers, the integration of players, and the unforgettable rivalries that shaped generations of fans. It’s a blend of history and heart that gives context to the traditions we see on Saturdays in the fall.

The Final Play: Kick a Field Goal

Before you leave, head to the 50-yard indoor playing field for one last challenge: attempting a field goal. It’s harder than it looks (trust me), but it’s the perfect way to wrap up your visit. Whether you split the uprights or send the ball wide, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for the athletes who make it look effortless.

On your way out, go through the gift shop to find some sports memorabilia you can take home and use to cheer on your team the next time they play.
