Celebrity Scene at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

Everyone loves a good selfie. Especially if you can snag one with Vin Diesel, Katy Perry, Babe Ruth, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler or Captain America. Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas gives you that chance to have some fun with your besties as you party with actors, celebrities, and sports heroes.

I was impressed with the quality of the wax figures on display at Madame Tussauds. I’ve been to other wax museums where the likeness just wasn’t quite there. At one point during my visit, I was questioning whether I was standing next to a real person who was a professional at standing still.

Following my visit, there are a few tips and tricks I want to share to help you maximize your experience. I don’t want to give away all of the celebrities who are on display at the museum, but I’ll try to give you a little taste.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Masks must be worn at the museum. We did remove the masks for selfies, but immediately replaced the mask when we were done. They have hand-sanitizer stations throughout the museum. Purchase tickets online in advance of your visit and select the time slot of when you plan to visit. Tickets can be purchased onsite, but you’re subject to museum capacity limits.

Getting Tickets, Finding the Entrance and Checking In

Regardless of a global pandemic or not, it’s always better – and often cheaper – to purchase your tickets to Madame Tussauds online. You can pick your day and the time you want to visit, as times are listed in 15-minute increments.

You can purchase tickets on-site, but you may end up waiting in line for a while, and if you come later in the day, you may not be able to visit it at all.

The entrance to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is just south of The Venetian hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s sort of hidden. You need to take some moving sidewalks up to the entrance. Keep an eye out for the directional signs.

Show your pre-purchased tickets at the front desk. You can also purchase a cold soda or bottle of water. Souvenir guidebooks ($5) are available for purchase as well. The guidebook can help you identify some of the celebrities in the museum, and you’ll find a few coupons for purchases in the gift shop or souvenir photo.

A Few Vital Tips for a Better Experience

I’ve toured a couple of wax museums over the years. I’ve found things that made the visit more enjoyable, or that hampered the fun. Here are some tips to help you get the most fun out of your visit.

  • Limit what you’re carrying. During our visit, I was carrying two cameras, one phone (with camera), a camera bag, jacket and a souvenir guidebook. I was constantly setting things down and picking them up. Why? because I don’t want to have all that “stuff” in my selfies or photos. Bring a backpack you can use to stuff all your items in so you’re only picking up and setting down one item – the backpack.
  • Keep an eye on your stuff. It was my own fault, but during one of the last rooms of my visit, I pulled my point-and-shoot camera out of my back pocket so I could sit in a chair. I set the camera on the table next to Bugsy Siegel (an American mobster) so my wife could take a photo with my other camera. I forgot it was there and we continued through the museum. Thirty minutes later, I realized I had left the camera on that table. We returned, but couldn’t find the camera. It had not been turned in, either. Someone had walked away with my $350 camera. I kept hoping someone would be honest and turn it in. But it never happened.
  • Position the camera in the right spot. If you want to grab a selfie with one of the wax figures, position your camera so the figure is “looking” at your camera. If the celebrity is looking elsewhere, and you’re looking at the camera, it looks funny. Trust me.
  • Have some fun with props. One of the fun things about Madame Tussauds is to get into character or enjoy the scene. You’ll often find props to help you accomplish that. A guitar, hat, microphone, etc. Props weren’t available during this visit, likely because of COVID-19. But I would imagine they’ll bring them back out in the future.

The Rooms of Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

I’m not going to give a full rundown of all the wax figures at Madame Tussauds. But I will walk you through the themes from each of the rooms at the museum.

  • At the club. You’ll find a collection of famous actors or singers. For example Vin Diesel, Lady Gaga and a Kardashian are waiting for their selfies with you.
  • Sports. Doesn’t matter if you like boxing, NASCAR, golf, baseball or basketball, some of the G.O.A.T.s are there for your photographic pleasure.
  • Into the 90s. Can you name a few of the popular singers or performers from the 90s? Do names like Madonna, Biggie Smalls or Daft Punk mean anything to you?
  • Music icons. You’ll find some of music’s most iconic stars. Miley Cyrus, Tupac, Fergie, Bob Marley, and of course, the King of Pop… Michael Jackson.
  • The Hangover Movie. If you’ve seen the movie, The Hangover, you’ll recognize some of the scenes and actors in the next few rooms. At one point, there was a bathroom door partially opened, with a tiger waiting on the other side.
  • Popular Las Vegas Performers. Over the decades, musicians, dancers and singers have performed on the stages of Las Vegas. It’s here where you can grab a selfie with Elvis (guess he really is alive), Bette Midler, Dean Martin or Donny and Marie. But beware of Bugsy… he may take your camera. 😉
  • Avengers. A few of Marvel’s Avengers are ready for you in the final room of the museum.

Marvel Super Heroes 4-D Show

The final room in Madame Tussauds Las Vegas lets you grab some selfies with a few of Marvel’s Avengers. Not all of the Avengers are there. But that’s okay… Captain America was there to remind people to watch their language (that was a move reference joke – haha!).

Besides grabbing a selfie with Nick Fury, Captain America, Spiderman and Hulk, you can experience a 4-D show. There is an extra fee to see the show. You can’t purchase these tickets online, so you’ll need to purchase them at either the front desk, or the souvenir photo desk in the room just prior to the Avengers.

The show lasts five minutes and includes some 4-D sensations. You wear 3-D glasses so images pop from the screen, but you’ll also feel things. I don’t want to spoil the surprise of what you’ll experience, so I’ll just leave it at that. I think kids would enjoy it, because my wife and I shared a few jumps of surprise and laughs of delight during the show – but we’re still kids at heart.
