Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – What you Need to Know

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now open to the general public. It’s pretty exciting, but since this is a huge new expansion to Disneyland, I turned to the travel experts at Get Away Today to get all the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge need-to-know info so you can get the most out of your visit.

While you no longer need any special reservations to get into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you should be aware of the virtual queue system that Disney has in place to help manage crowds. Here’s what you need to know to plan your visit to Disneyland’s new land.

How to Get into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

You do need a ticket to access the Disneyland Resort, but you don’t need a reservation to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Sadly, it’s possible the new addition will reach capacity during the day. That said, many mornings and late evenings, guests find they can simply walk right into the land.

If it does reach capacity, there is a virtual queue system that will distribute Boarding Passes to guests. To check capacity in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you can log in to the Disneyland app. If the land is full, you’ll be able to virtually join a Boarding Group and you will receive a virtual Boarding Pass with a return time.

When it is your turn to enter, you’ll receive a notification via the Disneyland app. At that point, you’ll have two hours to enter the land before your Boarding Pass is no longer valid.

However, once you enter the land with your Boarding Pass, you can stay as long as you’d like! Of course, when Disneyland Resort closes you’ll have to go home, but otherwise you don’t have a time limit to explore Galaxy’s Edge. If you leave Galaxy’s Edge and want to reenter later, and the land is full, you’ll need to request another Boarding Pass through the Disneyland app.

Dining Options Available in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

You can pre-purchase food from vendors such as Ronta Roasters, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or the Milk Stand using the “mobile ordering” option in the Disneyland app.

Oga’s Cantina is currently the only Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge eatery that has a reservation system in place to help manage crowds and provide guests with the best possible experience.

Using the Disneyland app you can request access to Oga’s Cantina. You will need a credit card to make your no-cost reservation, and at a minimum, one member of your party needs to be at least 14 years old.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your reservation time to check in. Once inside Oga’s Cantina, there is a two drink maximum, which applies to both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Additionally, Oga’s is mostly standing-room only – so don’t expect to sit down to enjoy drinks and snacks. If you fail to use your Oga’s Cantina reservation, you will be charged a cancellation fee of $10 per person, which is essentially the cost of a drink.

One of the great thing about the new space are the two souvenir experiences available: Savi’s Workshop (where you can make a custom lightsaber) and Droid Depot (where you build your own droid sidekick).

Use the Disneyland app to secure a Savi’s Workshop reservation. You can bring up to two guests with you to watch you make your lightsaber. Once inside Savi’s Workshop you’ll participate in not just lightsaber construction, but an induction ceremony. This experience costs $199, and if you are unable to fulfill your reservation you will be charged a $199 cancellation fee. So don’t miss your chance!

Droid Depot accepts guests on a walk-in basis and allows to pick out droids in a variety of colors and add a personality chip for $100. Your remote control droid will then interact with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as you explore the land, and will be your new companion as you travel to galaxies including your own home.

Rides at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Currently, there is only one ride in Star Wars: Galaxy Edge. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run allows you to play the role of pilot, engineer or gunner. Positions are handed out at random; Cast Members will not take requests for positions on the Millennium Falcon. But you are welcome to trade among your group. Once aboard this infamous ship, your interaction will determine the outcome of your run.
