How the MiceChat Gumball Rally Turns Disneyland Into an Amazing Race
The MiceChat Gumball Rally isn’t just another day at Disneyland. It’s a full‑throttle, strategy‑packed adventure that transforms the Happiest Place on Earth into a competitive playground for Disney fans. Think of it as The Amazing Race + Disneyland Scavenger Hunt combined.
Teams race from land to land solving clues, riding attractions, and trying to outsmart the clock, all while decked out in themed outfits. Whether you’re a first‑time Gumball Racer, curious about how it all works, or a returning competitor looking to level up your game, the Gumball Rally delivers a kind of magic you won’t find on any park map. And with next year’s event already generating buzz, now is the perfect time to dive in and start planning your own unforgettable Gumball Rally experience.

What is the Gumball Rally?
Leading up to the 2026 MiceChat Gumball Rally, I thought I knew what it was. I would tell people it’s a race to ride the most rides at Disneyland in a single day. While that’s true, that doesn’t give the full picture of the event.
Here’s a better way to explain the Gumball Rally: Teams of two to four people compete to earn points in Disneyland by completing certain challenges.
- Ride an attraction and answer a question about it (i.e., What’s the name on the pie truck in Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin)
- Watch the short film playing in Main Street Cinema and answer a trivia question about it (i.e., which Disney villain makes a cameo appearance?)
- Snap a self on a specific ride that shows you, your game book, your name badge, and the attraction
This year, they included a quest on the back of each game book. While the normal questions and tasks are worth one point each, these quests are worth five points. Those included scavenger hunts like:
- Complete a word search with clues found in the Main Street Opera
- Find words on various signs and items on Tom Sawyer Island
- Track down items in Frontier Land required for a villainous poison
- Look at close-up photos from places in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and identify where they’re found
At the end of the day, the team with the most points wins. But can you get through all of the game books before the deadline?

How to Prepare for the MiceChat Gumball Rally
We learned about the Gumball Rally in December 2025 from my friends at Get Away Today. As an affiliate with them, they invited me (and other content creators) to compete in the 2026 Gumball Rally. It didn’t take us long to accept the invitation. It sounded like a fun way to do Disneyland. Plus, my wife and I are pretty competitive.
Here’s what you’ll need to know as you prepare to compete in the Gumball Rally.
Register for the Gumball Rally + Park Tickets
When registration opens for the next Gumball Rally, visit the information page on MiceChat.com. I anticipate registration opening in the summer, as the Gumball Rally is typically held in early February. As soon as I learn that registration has opened, I’ll share it on my Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok channels.
There is a per-person registration fee if you want to compete. In 2026, it was $70 per person.

In addition to registering to compete, you’ll also need to purchase Disneyland tickets. Again, Get Away Today can hook you up with a great deal on Disneyland tickets. Here are a few notes about the type of Disneyland tickets you need to get:
- Teams cannot use Lightning Lane, so I don’t recommend adding it to your tickets
- Depending on the year, you may only need one park per day – No need for Park Hopper passes
- In 2025, Gumball Rally was ONLY in Disneyland Park. In 2024, it was ONLY in Disney’s California Adventure. In 2027, we’re told it will be a two-day event: one day in Disneyland and the next day in Disney’s California Adventure. Plan your park tickets accordingly.

Choose a Team Name + Logo + Uniforms
Every year, there’s a theme to the Gumball Rally. This year, it was Villains Night Out. My wife and I tried to find a name that would fit the theme. My travel blog icon is an astronaut, so I decided to go with more of a villain-seeking hero: Buzz Lightyear. We opted for Carltonaut’s Space Rangers.
I then used AI (Co-pilot) to take my astronaut icon and combine it with aspects of Buzz Lightyear and his AstroBlaster’s attraction in Disneyland. We were stoked with the finished product as we added the astronaut to a TomorrowLand theme, complete with the Monorail and Space Mountain.
With the team name and logo complete, now we had to come up with a team uniform. I say uniform because adults can’t wear “costumes” inside the park… except for dedicated events like the Halloween parties or the RunDisney events. I used Ninja Transfers to turn my logo into a patch (they also do t-shirts and more), then we added in to my black hat (along with some magnetic mouse ears) and the white sweatshirt. We printed the logo on our red shirts from a local vendor and put it all together for our team uniform.
Creating Swag to Trade or Share
We didn’t learn about the swag exchange until we were smack dab in the middle of the other teams. Too late to put something together. We’ll be better prepared next year. Some of the items shared or traded with other teams included:
- Stickers of the various team logos
- Unique keychains
- Clipboard and pen
- And more
Building Your Gumball Rally Strategy
We’re not going to give away our Gumball Rally Strategy, but I will share a few things you’ll need to think about during your non-stop day in the park:
- Are you stopping for food or bringing your own?
- How are you going to stay hydrated?
- How are you going to manage bathroom breaks?
We had a little notebook full of information we thought we would need. Others had 3-ring-binders full of SO MUCH INFORMATION. It’s up to you to determine what information will be most helpful to your team to know how to earn the most points and tackle the challenges.
What to Expect on Gumball Rally Day at Disneyland
Get a great night of sleep the night before Rally – like a full eight hours. You’re going to need it. The day starts early. You have to be at the starting line venue around 6 a.m. to pick up your packet (name tag, wristbands, etc.). Then you’ll take your seat and get ready for the rundown on the rules.

On Your Marks… (Going over the rules)
It takes about an hour to get through all the rules and answer any questions people have about the event. While the rules are generally the same from year to year, there may be a few variations based on the tasks or quests each team has to accomplish.
Generally speaking, here are the rules you’ll need to plan around as you compete in the Gumball Rally:
- You can’t use Lightning Lane.
- You can’t use your phone. This includes checking wait times, ordering food, taking photos (unless it’s the team captain taking a photo required for the challenge), etc.
- You MUST remain within 10-15 feet of your teammate(s) throughout the day. A few exceptions include:
- Using the bathroom (but teammate(s) must remain by the bathrooms)
- Single rider (this year, single rider lines were allowed – so if you ended up separate from your teammate, that was okay, as long as they waited by the exit for each other afterward)
- Teammate can’t ride a ride (similar to the single rider rundown – teammates must wait in line together, then the person not-riding must wait by the exit)
- If a task or quest specifically says you can split up, then you can for that task ONLY
- You can’t accept help from ANYONE. That means:
- You can’t have anyone bring you food.
- If a cast member offers to take you to the front of the line, you can’t accept it.
- You can’t ask cast members for answers to the questions YOU have to answer.
- You can’t have other guests look up wait times or information.
Don’t accept anything that would give you an advantage over the other teams. The Mice Chat folks work hard to ensure it’s a level playing field. Breaking any of the rules listed above could mean disqualification.

Get Set! Go!
After the rules are shared and questions are answered, make your way to the park entrance. This year, the team photo was captured at 8 a.m. on the Disneyland Esplanade. The crowd was so big, that I’m not sure everyone was able to be in the photo. However, the moment the group photo was captured, the organizers got things started.

Team captains found the volunteers handing out the first of five booklets and the 2026 Gumball Rally was underway. We started looking at the book as we made our way through the turnstiles into the park and down Main Street U.S.A.
Each book had roughly 10 tasks – meaning 10 opportunities to earn points. Here’s how tasks are scored:
- If you answer a question correctly, you get one point.
- If you don’t answer a question, you don’t gain or lose a point.
- If you get a question wrong, you lose a point.
That said, if you aren’t 100% sure of your answer, you may want to leave it blank. That’s why it’s important that all of your teammates are communicating, counting, and looking for the answers.
You are NOT required to complete every task in your book. When you decide you’ve earned as many points as you want, you turn your book in and grab the next one. It’s vital that you know when to cut your losses and move on to the next book. You can determine your strategy, but then you have to be flexible and adjust on the fly as you see how your day is playing out and the required tasks, ride wait times, etc.

Crossing the Finish Line
Competing in a full day of the Mice Chat Gumball Rally can be tiring. Around 2 p.m., my wife and I were getting tired. Tired to the point of getting a little less patient with each other. My wife and I acknowledged that we were tired, so we ate some food, drank some caffeine, and kept going.
We grabbed our fifth and final book around 5:45 – meaning we only had 75 minute to complete as many tasks as we could before making it to the finish line. We chose the highest value task – the quest that was worth five points – and headed to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to complete the scavenger hunt. It was challenging, but so amazingly fun.

Despite the darkness (the sun had gone down for the day), we completed the task around 6:15. As badly as we wanted to complete one or two more tasks on our way out of the park, we didn’t dare.
Here’s why….
Points are deducted for every minute your late in crossing the finish line. Two points are deducted for everyone minute after the 7 p.m. deadline. It took us 30 minutes to earn our first two points of the race (riding Pinocchio and Snow White in Fantasy land), so if we were one minute late, it would negate 30 minutes of our day. And every point matters.
This year, the finish line was The Anaheim Resort, which was just down the street from the Disneyland entrance. We turned in our final booklet around 6:40, along with several other teams. There was definitely an excitement at the finish line, with lots of cheering from every team that had already arrived.

Celebrate with the Winning Teams
When the competition is over, you can breathe a sigh of relief. You can also start to second guess each answer in your booklet and your overall strategy. The nice part about the finish line location… The Pizza Press was right there.
If you aren’t familiar with The Pizza Press, let me tell you about it. They have some great pizza that’s made right in front of you. After a busy day in the park, it’s a wonderful place to recharge before making your way back into the park to close out your day with fireworks, nighttime parades, and more.
With so many teams competing, there are A LOT of booklets to be scored and points to be tallied. During that roughly two-hour tabulation period, Mice Chat had arranged for a game and raffle to entertain and give away some amazing prizes. I wasn’t lucky enough to compete in the game of Press Your Luck, but I did have my number drawn in the raffle and got to pick a little prize.
Around 9:15 p.m. the results were in. The Top 10 teams were announced, and everyone celebrated a wonderful day of fun and the making of new friends. Kudos to this year’s winner – The Junior Society of Explorers & Adventurers. We crossed paths with them a few times and were so excited to see them take home the trophy.
After the awards ceremony, a few of the teams headed back into the park. We crossed paths a few more times with a team we’d met earlier in the day – Harold’s Bobsled Bandits (a father/daughter team). I hope some of the competitors from this year return to compete again next year.
A Look Ahead: What We Know About Next Year’s Gumball Rally
Every year, the Mice Chat Gumball Rally has a new twist. Next year, they’re expanding it to something new. Rather than being a single-day competition, the 2027 Mice Chat Gumball Rally will take place over two days. Day one will be open to almost close at Disneyland Park, while day two will be from open to about 5 p.m. at Disney’s California Adventure.
The theme for 2027? The Mice Chat Gumball Rally Games. Since the 2028 Summer Olympic Games will be held in nearby Los Angeles, I’m guessing the theme will have Olympic-style vibes, combined with the fun and magic of Disneyland, of course.
My wife and I are planning to compete in next year’s Gumball Rally. Let us know if you plan to compete as well and maybe we’ll see you there.
